Note 1Grand Drogoman of The Fleet. His marriage has been said to have confirmed an alliance between the Mavrocordatos of Chios and the Ghikas of Albania who shared political power in Wallachia and Moldavia and senior positions in Constantinople.
Note 2Sturdza says that Alexander Mavrogordato (1641-1709) secured an agreement with the Sultan that the appointment of the Grand Drogoman of the Fleet would only be made by the Grand Drogoman of the Sublime Porte.
Note 3In 1739 he negotiated an agreement with the Sultan whereby the key position of Grand Drogoman of the Sublime Porte would remain within the fold - i.e. among the descendants of a family pact involving the Mavrogordatos, Ghikas and Racovitzas.
