Note 1Drogman of the Turkish fleet (1758-64) Governor of Muntenia (1768-69) and Prince of Moldavia (1764-68, 1774-77). Paid with his life when he opposed Turkey’s cededing of Bukovina to Austria.
Note 2According to Sturdza he was the son of Mattheos (Gregorios) Ghika & Roxandra Mavrocordato (b. 1673). A Ghika family tree has him as the son of Alexander (Mattheos) Ghika (1698-1741).
Note 3Encyclopaedia Britannica 1911 says that he spoke French and Latin and founded a school at Iasi/Jassy. Encouraged German protestant settlers, including watch-makers, to settle in Iasi who establised a church there.
