Note 1His death in Cairo suggests he was involved in the cotton trade, perhaps as a banker, in cooperation with some of the many Chios families (many of whom were his cousins) who made fortunes in Egyptian cotton until the Nasser era in the mid C20th.
Note 2He appears to have been living in Galatz, Romania, until at least 1858 (when his third child was born there).

Note 1Referred to in P. Argenti’s ‘Libro d’Oro de la Noblesse de Chio’ as ‘petite fille’ of General Josef Dwerniki. Her death certificate only confirms her to be the daughter of Antoine Winckler and a Marie Dwernicka.
Note 2She may be the elderly lady pictured seated in a cane garden chair at a Vlasto family house party at Saltmarsh Castle in 1911. However, this person is more likely to be Fanny Kessisoglou (m. Zarifi).
Note 3Her death certificate is witnessed by her ‘petit-fils’ Paul Besson, a 42 year-old engineer living at 59 Rue Boissières (Paris 16e) and by 72 year-old Vice-Admiral Auguste Besson, grand officer de la Légion d’Honneur, of 100 Rue de Longchamps (Paris 16e).
