Note 2The fact that we know so little about him, his wife and his children is undoubtedly due the effects of the Chios Massacres. Did he survive and did he have siblings? Family history is lost as a consequence of dislocated families.
Note 3Penelope Delta refers to numbers of daughters without being specific. It is not known how many were ‘lost’ in the Massacres of Chios nor if they vanished into the lave markets of Asia Minor.
