Note 1Or Benakis. Father of the Greek nation. Settled Athens 1910 where he was an MP and Minister. A fervent supporter of Venizelos. Founder of the Benaki Museum, Athens. Mayor of Athens 1914-16.
Note 2Forced from office in 1916 and imprisoned by the Royalists in 1917. Lived in exile in France from 1920-24.
Note 3He built a house in the Greek district of Alexandria in 1883. He and both sons listed at (business address?) 61 Rue Porte Rosette, later Rue Fouad 1er in 1916
Note 4His house in Athens at Odos Koumbari 1 & Leoforos Vasilissis Sophias became the Benachi Museum in 1931, donated by his son Antoine.
Note 5Another house, Odos Emmanuel Benachi 38 & Odos Stephanou Delta was given to the museum by the heirs of his daughter Penelope and his grand-daughter Alexandra Delta Papadopoulou, ca. 1992.
