OccupationTeacher in 1853. Student and teacher of Byzantine music. Devoted his life to collecting folk songs, poetry and traditions throughout Crete. Author of ‘Marriage in Crete’, ‘Apollonius and Archistrate’, ‘Digenis’ and a family history.
Note 1Man of letters and historian. Brought up in Rethymno, Crete. During the independence wars he fled to Smyrna, then Constantinople. Returned to Candia to instruct the Cathedral choir.
