Note 2Officer of the Order of Franz-Josef. In a 1913 directory: “Giovanni [RvA] Scaramanga, industrial magnate, vice-president of the Commercial Bank, director of the Savings Bank, etc...”
Note 3In the 1914 directory the same person is listed as owner of several works of art: “ ’Drawings, woodcarvings, copper engravings, coins and medals’ ... Giov. [RvA] Sc. who was born 1872 and died 1960, has willed all his fortune to the city of Trieste...”
Note 4The family’s residence, ‘Palazzo Scaramanga’, a huge neoclassical building in a top location of Trieste, houses now the Giovanni Scaramanga museum, funded by the Giov. Sc. Foundation and exhibiting such works of art as mentioned in the 1914 directory...
