Note 1Died penniless after the bankruptcy of the Zervoudachi bank in Alexandria, Egypt, owing huge debts to members of the Greek community and others. Sentenced to ‘only two years’ in prison. Robert Liddell says he committed suicide (in prison).
Note 2Another source says he was pardoned some hours before his death and does not mention suicide.
