Note 1The 1861 census for Whinburgh lists the widowed Martha living at Old Hall farm and farming 190 acres, and son Daveney as the farm steward, oldest son William a tutor (possibly to the younger Vincent children).
Note 2The 1881 census finds Martha a widow aged 63 farming 200 acres in Whinburgh and living at ' Boundaries of Garvestone'. She employed nine people.
Note 3Her unmarried son Daveney Vincent aged 42 was listed as farmer's steward, presumably for his mother. Also living with her was a married son, Marshall aged 30, a Draper, Marshall's wife, Sarah Ann Maria, and another son, Frank, aged 21, a shopkeeper.
Note 4In 1891 Martha was living as a visitor in the household of William Matthews in Hockering. His wife was Lydia.
Note 5She had 12 children including Ellen.
