Note 2In 2005 Robert Hamilton Boyle of NYC said he believed his maternal grandfather, Nicholas Coundouris (b. Kephalonia 1837, d. London 1929) was one of the models for the character of ‘Ulysses’.
Note 3He was first married to a lady called Alex/Alix who may have been a Tombazi.
Note 4Served in the Balkan Wars and in WWl. Awarded the War Cross and the Cross of The Redeemer. Served as Military Attaché to London after WWl.
Note 5Patrick Leigh-Fermor met Balasha Cantacuzene in Athens when she was visiting Constantine & Marie-Angèle.
