Note 1Known as Homéridi. Mayor of Piraeus 1840-52. Financial backer of the 1821 Greek revolution and 1806 a founder of the ‘secret society’ of l’Hotel Elephant in Marseilles which became part of the Philiki Hetaerae.
Note 2He may be the Schilizzi who, according to Stephen Minta (quoting Harold Nicholson) travelled to Greece with Byron in 1823 and who wrote an important letter to him, partly quoted in ‘Byron: The Last Journey’ (London 1924).
