Note 2Philip Argenti writes to Stephen Schilizzi in a three-page letter dated 15 Nov 1930: “This Theodosius Schilizzi lived 1695-1760. He died in Constantinople – his brother Strati was the Sultan’s physician…”
Note 3Philip Argenti continues: “Theodosius was the uncle of Peter Demetrius Schilizzi who founded the Schilizzi Hospital in Chios in 1753 on the model of the hospital in Florence where he had himself studied...”
Note 4“... The hospital was begun in 1753 and finished 1766. It was this hospital which had suffered in 1821 from fire and which was finally destroyed by the great earthquake of 1880...”
Note 5“... which our respective grandfathers John and Zanni together with Matthew Schilizzi of Leghorn and Naples rebuilt and which still stands today.”
