Note 1Aide-de-camp to Czar Alexander. With his brother an early but largely unsuccessful leader of the Greek War of Independence. He had earlier accompanied his father to St Petersburg in 1805 and lost an arm at the Battle of Dresden in 1812/13.
Note 2Presumably the Alexandros Ypsilanti who, with Spatharis Georgios Mavrokordatos and Iordanis Kaplanoglou, led the restoration and rejuvenation of the Monastery of the Virgin Mary-on Halki [now Heybeliada].
