Note 11918-20 Royal Navy. 1942 Lieutenant RNVR (Mine disposal). Naval intelligence officer. Killed in action. His portrait was painted by Halhead.
Note 2According to his daughter Anthea, he was killed instantaneously somewhere behind Omaha beach by a German aircraft while laying out his bed-roll when on a mission (with others who survived) to destroy German positions near Cherbourg.
Note 3He features prominently in a BBC TV account broadcast on 6/7-03-2013 of the wartime career of Ian Fleming in whose secret commando unit (30AU) he served and died.
