Note 1O.B.E. Governor of Corfu and in 1917 Governor of Salonika. In WWll an Allied clandestine agent in Greece.
Note 2During WWll he went to the HQ of the Greek government in exile. George Papandreou was then Prime Minister... Having offered them his services Alec, although penniless, installed himself at Shepheard's Hotel.
Note 3Blinded in one eye playing rackets in Cairo. Worked in the Egyptian Civil Service. Became a Greek citizen and politician. In WWll, after British troops had withdrawn, he worked in clandestine activity for the Allies in Athens and the Aegean.
Note 4He appears in a photogrpah with the exiled King George ll of Greece in London after the 1946 plebiscite had voted to restore the monarchy.
