Note 2In 1885 Fanny and Michael applied to the Queen’s Bench of the High Court in London to have their marriage validated under English law following the introduction of the Greek Marriages Act (1884).
Note 3In Oct 1883 they learned that their Greek Orthodox marriage might be invalid in England. They were represented by Edwin Freshfield of Freshfield & Williams (Solicitors) who spoke Greek and represented many prominent members of the Anglo-Greek community.
Note 4She may be the elderly lady pictured seated in a cane garden chair at a Vlasto family house party at Saltmarsh Castle in 1911. However, this person may instead be Natalie Winkler-Vlasto.
Note 5It appears that her sister, Calliope, and her brother-in-law Xenophon Balli, acted as ‘family’ and guardians in London prior to her marriage.
