Note 1The founder of one the most important coin collections of the 20th Century who also gave his name to the renowned ‘Vlasto’ Attic vase which later became the property of his daughter Didi and then of the National Museum, Athens.
Note 2A great friend of Prince George of Greece and Denmark (Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glücksburg) whom he encouraged to marry the fabulously rich Marie Bonaparte in December 1907. Prince George, born 1869, on Corfu was the son of George l, King of Greece.
Note 3See ‘The Collection of Tarentine Coins Formed by M. P. Vlasto’, by O. E. Ravel (London, 1947). His British probate effects were £2,760 12s 3d granted to Ralli Brothers Ltd for the benefit of his widow. The bulk of his fortune was not in Britain.
