Note 1Catsiyannis could not establish the name of his firm which may well have traded with his brother Matteo in Livorno. Presumably the M.G. Mavrogordato who was a founding member of the Baltic Exchange (see Baltic Profiles by Frederick Kahl).
Note 2Following the 1893 financial crash, he took on the Palazzo Maurgordato in Livorno (a palatial residence still standing but neglected in 2014) from his brother Matteo who had lost his fortune. The Palazzo was sold in the 1920s.
Note 3Presumably he is not the Michael Mavrogordato commemorated on a marble plaque in Florence Cathedral.
