Note 1The ‘black sheep’ and ‘gambler’ referred to in the 1921 Kessisoglu libel trial. He was maintained by a £320 p.a. allowance by four nephews and nieces. On his death the sum was continued at a rate of £120 p.a. But Emily sought to have the full amount continued by blackmailing and libelling his relatives.
Note 2In 01-2003 George Vassiadis wrote to CAL: “It is likely that when Kessisoglou Senior died Xenophon inherited control of the family company and if his choice of wives is anything to go on, his lack of sound judgement led to the family's decline.”
Note 3Whether he was really the father of Clare Kessisoglu or of Xenia as their birth certificates say, was an implied element in the libel and defamation court case against their mother. 1871 census says he was unmarried and staying with his sister Calliope.

Note 2Nothing is known of her identity or origins. It is not clear whether her daughter, Claire/Clare was the daughter of Xenophon but the fact that a reduced sum was settled upon the daughter suggests that she was not deemed to be Xenopon’s legitimate daughter.
