Note 2Her beautiful brass-bound burr-walnut dressing box with silver-topped fittings (engraved “M.G.H.T. 1860”) has survived. Was this an engagement gift from Thomas (seeing that it is not inscribed with her married name initials?
Note 3She was the youngest daughter of the late John Johnston Thomson, a banker of Bandon. Her sister Agnes married a William A. Treacy, a surveyor of West Riding, Co Cork.
Note 4CAL has a number of her possessions including a gold mourning and ring, her dressing box and a banknote issued by her father’s bank Provincial Bank of Ireland (Bandon).
