Note 1Listed in Kent's 1794 Directory. He may have had a daughter Caroline. A ‘C. Desormeaux’ had a sketch book illustrating English holiday destinations from ca 1835-60. One sketch refers to Bridlington Quay which she had visited in 1812 when at school.
Note 2Is he the same person as: ‘Jacques Louis des Ormeaux, was elected a director of the French Hospital in 1798’ (see ‘Huguenot Settlers in North America and Europe’ Cyril Du Bourdieu).
Note 3In 2024 Kim Boyd wrote that December 1775 an attempt was made to steal a valuable consignment of black silk belonging to James Desormeaux. One of those found guilty at the Old Bailey, John Graham, was transported to Australia.
Note 4A James Lewis Desormeaux (1773-1803) lived and or worked as a master black silk dyer at 15-16 Calvin Street, Spitalfields, London
