Note 1Born a Calmăşul but changed his name to Callimachi. Prince of Moldavia 1758-1761. Grand Drogoman of the Sublime Porte (1741-50). Beheaded 1761.
Note 2Studied at Lvov and knew Latin, Turkish, Italian, Greek and French. Callimachi served in the administrations of Ioan Mavrocordat and of Grigore II Ghica.
Note 3He was Grand Dragoman at the Ottoman Porte in Istanbul where, over the course of his sixteen years of service, he was recognized for his diplomatic ability.
Note 4In 1758 he was appointed Prince of Moldavia, a position he held until 1761. He retired to Constantinople where he lived for 19 years before his death.
