Note 2In 1910 he was Liberal parliamentary candidate for the Isle of Wight (The Leasowes, Shanklin) and owned West Hill Manor at Shanklin. In 1913 he became a magistrate. He was the author of three books (1906, 1907 and 1908).
Note 3Novelist: ‘Vanessa’, ‘The Wisdom of the Serpent’, ‘The Missing Monarch’, ‘Julian Steele’, etc. and author of numerous articles on Compulsory Service and kindred subjects.
Note 4Was he in any way connected with a bull & bear medallion dated 1933 (an image of which was sent to CAL in 2009 by Matt McKay) inscribed Lee Ralli & Company, perhaps connected with the brokerage house C. J. Devine & Co.
Note 5Changed his name to Scaramanga-Ralli to inherit West Hill House, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, from his aunt Julia Ralli (1826-1910). In financial difficulties during WWl, forced to sell house in 1921, bankrupted in 1923. They ended life in a rented bungalow.
