Note 1Surpisingly he is unknown to Argenti. Lieutenant. Joined the 8th (Ardwick) Bn of the Manchester Regiment on the outbreak of WW1. Served in Gallipoli. Discharged from the Army with wounds in 1916.
Note 2Served very briefly in Galipoli but shipped home from Mudros on the Dominion Liner, then a Hospital Ship ‘Canada’ on 24 Aug 1915 having only arrived on 31 Jul 1915. On 9 Sep 1915 in the UK he was diagnosed with dysentry and was vomiting blood.
Note 3A Military Medical Board at the War Office on 17 Aug 1916 found he was suffering from appendicitis, syphilis and marked flat feet with hammer toes (not examined when he obtained a Commission).
Note 4His medical discharge notes that he “still has neurasthealmic symptoms (shell shock)”. Is it possible that Argenti and others regarded his brief war career, syphilis and shell shock with disdain?
Note 4He may have been the father of an Aspasia Mary Agelasto, b. 8 Oct 1911, d. Jan 1999. Could he also have been the father of Hypatia Marie Agelasto, b. 13 Feb 1902, d. Sep 1908?
