Note 2Life-long intimate friend of Lord Kitchener (met in Cyprus) who stayed with Ralli when he was in England. Kitchener had been staying with Pandely immediately prior to sailing to his death on HMS Hampshire in the North Sea.
Note 3Mary Ann Chadwell’s 1871 diary: Thursday 23rd March: ‘[Pandely] will return from his long journeying on Monday. He has been to India, Japan, China, Cashmere, California; home by America.’
Note 4He left over £750,000 (net) to his niece Evelyn Moreton, Lady Byng. He was blind in his last years. A personal friend of King Edward Vll. Known as ‘Pandely Tom’.
